Mind-Body Medicine
A powerful connection for self-healing
Healing through self-awareness, self-care and self-expression.
All people have the capacity to understand, help, and heal themselves.
Wellness groups can help people transform the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of their lives to improve their well-being.
Mind-body skills groups, as established through the Center For Mind-Body Medicine, founded in 1991 by James Gordon,MD, a clinical and research psychiatrist, use research-based techniques shown to:
*Improve ability to recognize and handle stress
*Reduce anxiety and depression
*Enhance ability to cope with pain, fatigue and other symptoms
*Enhance immune system function, physical and mental health
*Increase self-awareness, self-perception and self-confidence
Dr. Castleman, has completed Professional and Advanced Training programs through CMBM, and facilitates small groups in person and remotely through Zoom.

The Center for Mind-Body Medicine Model
The CMBM model trains local service providers and community leaders to teach simple stress-relief and resilience-building skills in the context of small, supportive groups. These skills are invaluable especially in the context of stress.
When stress is chronic or overwhelming, it disrupts physiological function and contributes significantly to every major psychological and physical disorder (including heart disease, immune disorders and pain syndromes, as well as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, alcoholism and drug addiction).
Some of the skills taught include:
* Breathing techniques
* Meditation
* Movement
* Visualization
* Imagery
* Biofeedback
* Relaxation
